The Story Behind Our Adaptive Inflatable SUP Seat
At FatStick, we’ve always believed that the water is for everyone. It doesn’t matter your age, your background, or your physical ability. The feeling of gliding across the water should be accessible to all.
But for many, traditional paddle boarding comes with barriers. Standing for long periods can be exhausting, and getting up and down from a standard board can be painful for creaking knees, stiff ankles, or those managing injuries and disabilities.
That’s why we created the FatStick Adaptive Inflatable SUP Seat. Here is the story of why we built it, who helped us bring it to life, and how it’s changing the game for paddlers everywhere.
Why We Designed It: Freedom for Every Body
The inspiration was simple. We noticed a gap in the community. So many people loved the idea of paddle boarding but felt held back by physical limitations. Standard kayak seats clip onto boards, but they sit entirely flat, offering very little leg support or cushioning.
We wanted to create a solution that provides true comfort, opens up the sport to the adaptive community, and helps older or injured paddlers stay on the water longer without pain.
Who Was Involved: Co-Designed by the Community
We didn't just grab this off a shelf in a factory. To get it right, Reuben and the FatStick team collaborated directly with adaptive paddlers, riders with mobility challenges, and our amazing FatStick community. By listening to real-world feedback about what regular seats lacked, we were able to engineer a piece of kit that truly serves its purpose.
How We Designed It: Engineering Ultimate Comfort
We didn't just make a seat; we engineered a premium, multi-use accessory using the same heavy-duty drop-stitch technology as our famous inflatable boards.

The Power of Elevation: Unlike standard flat kayak seats, our adaptive seat raises you a good few inches off the deck. This completely changes the ergonomics, putting your body into a natural, comfortable sitting position that takes the stress right off your knees and ankles.

Solid & Light: When inflated, the seat is incredibly sturdy, offering rigid back and core support, however it weighs next to nothing, meaning it won’t weigh you down when carrying your board to the shore.

Beyond the Board: We love versatility. Because it’s fully inflatable and rigid, it doubles as an incredibly comfy beach chair or camping seat when you’re back on dry land.
