Summer SUP Essentials
What Is A Summer SUP Essential
Simply put, anything that makes your experience safe and enjoyable.
It's very easy to get swept along with the rush of a windless morning or stunning sunset, but with the rush to get out, we often forget the important things...no, not the camera.
We mean the safety equipment that will allow you to paddle and stay safe whilst soaking up that epic moment on the water.
Here are our Safe Essentials and Enjoyable Essentials👇
Safe Essentials
-
PFD - It doesn't matter how short your paddle will be, make sure you have one of these in your kit. We always have the minimum of a Restube with us, just in case.
- Leash - make sure you have the correct leash. If you don't, it's not worth the risk. This is not negotiable. By paddling without the correct leash you are putting your safety and life at risk.
- Waterproof Phone Case - This is important for communication only, not for the pictures. If you should become separated from your board and are being aided by your PFD, you will be able to call for help and the GPS on your phone will help locate you.
-
Hat - Make sure you keep the top of your head covered. Heat stroke can come on incredibly quickly and it can be debilitating. But keeping the top of your head out of the direct sun, this will help protect you.
- Water - Keeping hydrated in the warm weather, especially around the salty sea is very important. You don't want to become dehydrated. Always drink before you need it.
Enjoyable Essentials
- Waterproof Phone Case - This time it is for the pictures. Your phone case allows you to be safe whilst also being able to capture that epic scene happening in front of you.
- Suncream - You don't want sunburn and that tan line from the PFD won't be attractive, so get the suncream on, protect your skin and then get the PFD on.
Obviously we recommend Life Jacket Skin Protection - Sunglasses - protect those peepers by wearing good quality sunnies. Our go to is Coral.
-
Waterproof Dry Bag - this will keep all your extra kit safe and dry. Meaning you have dry clothes for when you finish, somewhere to keep your water, a safe place for the car keys & a cheeky snack for afterwards.
-
Dry Clothes Post Paddle - Having a fresh set of dry clothes is always nice. Changing your FatStick T-Shirt for a dry one and maybe popping on a FatStick hoodie when it gets a little cooler means that you can stay out longer.
-
Beach Cover - We have the FatStick Beach Tent and it's a little wonder. It acts as a great locating beacon so you know where you're heading, and for those that aren't paddling, it's there to help keep them cool and out of the sun.
